Jayhawks
just listening to the radio and the jayhawks, “waiting for the sun” came on and that got me thinking… i remember the first time i heard/saw the video… mtv was making such a big deal about it at the time and so i thought… “man, this should be super awesome!” i was twenty and heavy into lou reed and the velvet underground… and miracle legion… and for whatever reason i dismissed the sound as way too country and too less rock and roll.
stupid.
when tomorrow the green grass came out a couple years later i was moving out of my decade long infatuation with lou and was knocked out by miss williams guitar or the solo on ten little kids… brilliant. then lou appeared on the sweet relief disc with “tarbelly and featherfoot…” saw him and victoria williams perform it on Mtv 120 minutes… excellent…
i keep thinking how funny how these tastes… performers… music… and whatever seems to either come full circle or merely link to each other… another example… i was always an avid stranglers fan up unitl hugh cornwell left… then came lou… and the clash… in 1988, the film “permanent record” came out with a sound track that featured… joe strummer (who scored the film), a new lou reed tune, and the stranglers covering “all of the day and all of the night” crazy?
like worlds blending together…
