So one of the albums that I’ve been listening to over the last week or so is the third release from a transplanted Floridian who now calls Austin home, Jeremy Steding. The album I Keep on Living but I Don’t Learn is currently number 17 on the October Euro-Americana Chart and number 15 on the Freeform American Roots Chart.
Steding, a fellow Gator, moved to Austin, TX in April of 2007 and first hit the Texas Music Chart with “Auburn” the second single from his debut CD. After signing with Smith Records, Steding released his second album “A Damn Good Ride” in September of, 2009. The first two singles from the album reached the top 50 on the Texas Music Chart, including this one “Let the Boys Drink Whiskey”
Steding is accompanied on stage by “The Band of Bastards” the current line-up for the band consists of Chris Reeves, Eric Smith and Travis Woodard. Steding and his band have played on the same stage with a who’s who of Texas Music including Kevin Fowler, Charley Pride, Bruce Robison, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Cory Morrow, Hayes Carll, Ronnie Milsap, Brandon Rhyder, Dale Watson, Bart Crow, Josh Abbott Band, Randy Rogers, and many more. I’ll Keep On Livin’, But I Don’t Learn kicks off with the rowdy “Annie Ray” and ends with my favorite “Five Aprils” a great song about the Civil War and in between is filled with eight other great tracks. Favorites include the title track, “Sometines You need a Hurricane”, “Paint the Town Red, When They’re Blue” and the aforementioned “Five Aprils”
