JUBILEE – The Abolitionist 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Rock Band – Album Release Concert for TO SEE YOU WELL – Triple Door, Seattle, January 31, 2011.
“Imagine how you can do what you love in life to undo what you hate.”
This kind of plain speaking is the reason Jubilee works for our days. Loving-kindness is best when it’s served in a heap. Trying clutters life, and I’m looking for ideas. Well, these folks combine art and mission, wield cunning love, and musically move West Coast folk pop nearer to Hawaii’s slack-key and churning rhythm. Inspiring. Sure, part of me longed for more of The Rock. Fine. But before I returned to distressing my denim, the Jubileers closed by foisting pounding drums frosted with three-part harmony. I left wanting to fight for good. Sunny good-byes are hard to come by these days: “Grab the gusto,” I said to myself. Hopefully, this band harnesses the energy of their musical scope, and then, lookout. For now, they do good. The act of love is an ambitious wave–bound to be thin at points–yet when it swallows, it pounds. Here’s to doing, thinking and loving!
