Kacey Musgraves – Same Trailer, Different Park
The Texas native released her fourth album (her first one with Mercury Records), Same Trailer Different Park, last month. Although her name might be new to country radio, Musgraves has been making music for several years. After releasing an album in 2002 and another in 2003, she placed 7th on, Nashville Star, a country version of shows like American Idol.
I purchased her 2007 self-titled album because of the traditional country sound. She had a great big voice and whole lotta twang. Same Trailer Different Park sounds just a little softer than that album. Her voice doesn’t sound as big and there’s less twang for sure but, make no mistake, she’s still singing country music. Musgraves wrote/co-wrote every song on the album. She weaves themes of heartache and trailer park livin’ throughout the album. While it’s still a country album, songs like “Silver Lining” and “Step Off” give it a splash of optimism and energy. Her writing reaches beyond love and loss on this album in songs like “Follow Your Arrow”, a song about acceptance.
She’s just released her second single, “Blowin’ Smoke”, a strong follow to “Merry Go ‘Round” and she also penned another former Nashville Star competitor’s recent single, “Mama’s Broken Heart”, so it’s already been a great year for Miss Musgraves.
