For the third year in a row, we’re excited to team up with our friends at KEXP and the Seattle Center for No Depression Night at the Mural Amphitheater. If you happen to be in or around Seattle, this Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, you’ll want to stop by No Depression night for a free concert featuring three incredible up-and-coming artists.
Last year we had a stellar lineup featuring Shovels and Rope, Sally Ford and the Sound Outside, Legendary Oaks and Fly Moon Royalty. This year, the music ranges from gritty, old-school rock and roll to Mississippi blues, and indie rock blended with Middle Eastern folk. Just a sampling of the wealth of styles No Depression embraces.

JD McPHERSON:
There’s been a wonderful wave of Americana music pouring out of Oklahoma these last few years, and JD McPherson is one of that great state’s great highlights. He deals in good old fashioned rock and roll – the kind that influenced folks like Elvis and Buddy Holly. It’s not throwback style so much as it is some of the rawest, purest rock music around. What might have happened if Little Richard grew up listening to the Pixies? Chances are, he’d sound like JD McPherson.
ROSE WINDOWS:
Seattle’s own Rose Windows may look like your standard Seattle rock band, but listen more closely, and you start to realize they’ve pulled as much influence from Persian and Eastern European music as they do from what’s happening in their own backyard. Backed by the distinguishing tastemakers at SubPop Records, Rose Windows is bound to expand your ideas about Americana and roots music. Seattle’s weekly, The Stranger, just went out on a limb and declared “Rose Windows are poised to become one of Seattle’s most important bands of the twenty-teens”.
GRAVELROAD:
Hardcore Americana/blues fans may know Gravelroad as the former backing band to the late, great T-Model Ford. They backed him on seven US tours and played on his 2010 release The Ladies Man. But, Gravelroad is more than just someone else’s backup band. Fueled by the verdant musical ground of the Mississippi blues, Gravelroad brings a Northwest flavor to three-man rock and blues.
