Barely a fortnight after news of Glossary’s signing to Xtra Mile, comes news of another exciting hook-up for the UK label. Oregon’s mighty Larry And His Flask will release their next album, on Xtra Mile in June. To my mind, they are the best live band you could hope to see – they aren’t just an incredible visual spectacle, they can play the heck out of their instruments, harmonise like demons and write great songs.
The band are currently on tour around the UK with Frank Turner (whom I know divides opinion, but you can’t knock his support of great artists – Larry and His Flask, Glossary and Drag The River/Jon Snodgrass). When they’re done with those dates, they start their own European tour. It lasts until June 12th and takes in Kilkenny Roots Festival as well as a Brighton show on May 14th – a little under a year since I last saw them and I can still recall the experience as if it was yesterday. I would urge you to try and do the same. If ever there was a band that you NEED to see ‘live’ it is Larry And His Flask.
And, Xtra Mile – if you’re listening – how about making it three in a row and signing Drag The River? That might just make you the coolest label on the planet.
