Lucinda Williams to Re-Release ‘Sweet Old World’

Lucinda Williams just announced plans to release a re-recorded version of her 1992 album Sweet Old World. Due out September 29 via Thirty Tigers, the updated collection celebrates the album’s 25th anniversary. 

Sweet Old World was Williams’ fourth studio album. Earlier this year, Williams performed the album in its entirety at a show in Minneapolis, with promises of a special commemorative project to come. Updates to the new version include new verses on “He Never Got Enough Love” (now retitled “Drivin’ Down a Dead End Street”) as well as four re-recorded outtakes, including a version of John Anderson’s “Wild and Blue.”

“When you look back at your early albums, probably a lot of people go, ‘God, I should just recut these songs,’ because, needless to say the production is like night and day between the original one and this one,” Williams told Rolling Stone Country. “It’s like a whole new album.”

Guitarist Greg Leisz, an original musician on the album, returns this time around, aided by players from Williams’ current touring band. Williams co-produced the updated album with Tom Overby. 

Williams’ most recent album is 2016’s The Ghosts of Highway 20.
