August 23rd, 2009 – Luckenbach Texas attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Guitar Ensemble. Luckenbach is known world wide for it’s laid back state of mind. Hanging under the trees with a cold beer and pickin a few tunes is the favorite past time.
Kerrville Folk Festival, Cheatham St Warehouse and the Voices of a Grateful Nation project have teamed up to hold a fundraiser and get some world wide attention for Texas Music. The Voices project is a 2 CD compilation of songs written by Texas Artists for our troops. All of the proceeds from the sale of the CD’s and the proceeds from the Guinness World Record attempt will go towards helping our troops and their families that suffer from traumatic brain injuries.
Pickin for the Record is a fun project. If you play guitar or know anyone who does, we urged you to take part in
this historic event. Not only is it for a good cause, it supports Texas Music. The German’s currently hold the record with 1803 players. The record was set in 2007 with “Smoke on the Water”. For the Texas attempt, we are going to play the Luckenbach song ( Back to the Basics of Love) and just for fun, we will also play This Land is Your Land. The Luckenbach song is fitting because we will be in Luckenbach and, thanks to Waylon and Willie, the song is known world wide. We are hoping the publicity for the Voices Project along with the world wide recognition that TEXAS MUSIC is PROUD will help put us all out there just a little bit more. With Austin being the Live Music Capital of the World, Luckenbach being known for it’s lore and history in the music world, this can’t help but be an indelible part of history. Mostly.. this is Texas, we deserve this title!
