Luther Ingram
Songwriter Luther Ingram died of complications from diabetes March 19 in Belleville, Illinois. He wrote “If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don’t Want To Be Right)” and had a #1 R&B hit with the song in 1972. During his five-year association with Stax, Ingram co-wrote (with Sir Mack Rice) the Staple Singers’ “Respect Yourself”. He performed with Ike Turner, lived with Jimi Hendrix, and was once Isaac Hayes’ opening act. He was 69.
