The International Bluegrass Music Association has announced the nominees for its Special Awards, a set of honors that recognize outstanding work across the industry.
Among the nominees (see full list here) are ND Bluegrass Rambles columnist Ted Lehmann for Print/Media Person of the Year and the FreshGrass Festival in North Adams, Massachusetts, for Event of the Year. The FreshGrass Foundation is the parent nonprofit organization of No Depression.
“I’m very pleased to receive the nomination again,” Ted told us after learning he was on the list. “I deeply appreciate the folks at No Depression for taking a chance on bluegrass, giving me a platform, and exposing me to new readers.”
Candidates for the Special Awards — which also include Bluegrass Broadcaster of the Year, Best Graphic Design, Best Liner Notes, Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year, and, new in 2018, Bluegrass Sound Engineering — are recommended by IBMA members, with the final group selected by committees within the association.
Nominees for the IBMA’s Momentum Awards, which honor emerging artists and industry figures as well as mentors, were also announced today. The winners of the Special Awards and Momentum Awards will be announced at a daytime ceremony on Sept. 27, during IBMA’s World of Bluegrass gathering in Raleigh, North Carolina.
