In summary, you will love this CD if you like beautiful folk rock with a touch of country. The Civil Wars have nothing on this.
The self-titled work is the first CD by this duo, but it is far from the first CD by either Kelli or Swearingen. Both of them have fabulous voices and Jayne Kelli is a vocal chameleon and she can adjust her sound a hundred ways to suit the song. Swearingen is an outstanding singer and guitarist and plays very tasty fills throughout the record. The vocal harmonies cannot be beaten!
The songs range from a plaintive ballad to an upbeat toe-tapper of a country song with lots of variety in between. The melodies stick in your head and have you humming along in no time. Most of the lyrics deal with relationships and have a mysterious nature about them, leaving you to imagine the details or relate the songs to your own experiences.
The rootsiest songs are Bleeding Heart and The Last One.
Again…. terrific songwriting, terrific vocals, and excellent instrumentation……what more could you want?
