No Depression Sessions at AmericanaFest: Caleb Caudle

We caught up with North Carolina singer-songwriter Caleb Caudle for his second No Depression Session of the year, after he floored the ND audience with his Rootsy Winter Fest session in Sweden back in early 2023. This time around we see Caudle again (always) in top form at Jaan’s House in Nashville during AmericanaFest 2023, sharing two songs from his forthcoming record, Sweet Critters, along with John Hartford’s nostalgia bomb “Back in the Goodle Days.”
First up is “Heaven Sometimes,” a song about recognizing purpose in life, and then reckoning with the work it takes to realize the path. Caudle and his Pre-War guitar sound full and rich in this solo acoustic arrangement, and we eagerly await the album version of the song, which features a guest appearance by another ND favorite, Allison Russell.
Next we hear Caudle’s interpretation of “Back in the Goodle Days,” and he shares that he had a chance to play one of Hartford’s Marlboro-marinated guitars at The Cash Cabin Studio while recording his last album, Forsythia (ND story). Caudle rounds out his session with a grownup love song to his wife called “The Brim.” The song will also be included on Sweet Critters, and features contributions from Aoife O’Donovan.
