No Depression Sessions at AmericanaFest: Fruition

It is always a delight to meet up with Fruition, a band of world-class pickers and equally lovely human beings. Watch them treat us to three new songs at Jaan’s House in Nashville during AmericanaFest 2023 while we eagerly await the studio versions of these songs coming next year.
Mimi Naja takes the vocal lead on the first song, “Take It Back,” joined in devastating three-part harmony by lead guitarist Jay Cobb Anderson and rhythm guitarist Kellen Asebroek. Between songs, while Anderson discusses the band’s near-term plans, please note his triumphant use of the word “rigamarole.” Asebroek sings lead on the next song, “Saturday Night,” supplemented by a melodic slide guitar solo from Anderson.
Try closing your eyes at the start of the third song, “When It’s All Said and Done.” Does it seem like drummer Tyler Thompson is making those sounds using physical impact from drumsticks on acoustic drums? I was doing camera stuff during soundcheck and not watching Thompson closely, and I assumed I was hearing an 808-inspired drum machine of some kind. Alas, we’re hearing acoustic sounds from acoustic instruments to great effect! Bassist Jeff Leonard rounds out the rhythm section and Anderson takes lead vocal.
Stay tuned for the forthcoming Fruition studio album (or albums, plural?) out next year; they have an avalanche of excellent music comin’ down the mountain. And catch them if you can in Seattle, Bellingham, and Portland for a New Year’s run of shows with support from Sarah Shook & the Disarmers!
