No Depression Sessions at Folk Alliance International 2024: Jolie Holland

Join us for Jolie Holland’s No Depression Session from Folk Alliance International in Kansas City, where she performs three songs from two albums called Haunted Mountain. The first two songs are included on Holland’s Haunted Mountain, and the third can be heard on Buck Meek’s album of the same name. It is no coincidence that the two artists released albums of the same title around the same time: Holland and Meek are friends and collaborators, and co-wrote a number of the Haunted Mountain songs that appear on each other’s (and sometimes both) albums.
For me, one of the most interesting aspects of recording No Depression Sessions is getting to see songs translated from the album to the stage to the session environment. Holland shares her music in a solo acoustic arrangement during this ND Session, and also discusses the live arrangement that sometimes includes viola and synth, and other times includes Ben Boye playing his Hydrasynth with polyphonic aftertouch. Although there is no recording that can replace the experience of live music, we love contextualizing the music in this session format and sharing with y’all!
After enjoying this ND session, please give the album a spin and check out Tom Williams’ ND review here.
