No Depression Sessions at Rootsy Winter Fest: The Mukherjee Development
The Mukherjee Development
The fourth offering from our No Depression Sessions at Rootsy Winter Fest features The Mukherjee Development, led by Silicon Valley-bred and Copenhagen-based frontman Oscar Mukherjee.
The studio version of this session’s first song, “From A to B,” was recorded only a month prior to the live performance seen here; stay tuned for more info on the release, likely this fall.
The second tune, “Wish I Were the Sun,” was written during the winter in Mukherjee’s roach-infested Copenhagen apartment while he was longing for spring, and perhaps a less wildlife-friendly place to live. Listen for the interesting unison guitar lines after the first chorus between Jakob Holm on the left and Søren Bigum on the right, a fantastic variation on the theme.
Mukherjee wrote the third song, “Hang It Up,” on a train while listening to John Prine shortly after Prine passed away. The Poulsen groove on this one is undeniable, featuring Henrik Poulsen on bass and Søren Poulsen on drums.
The No Depression Sessions at Rootsy Winter Fest are made possible by Bitchin’ Sauce. Look for past sessions from the festival, which took place Feb. 3-4 in Falkenberg, Sweden, here, with more to come over the next several weeks.
