June’s Best of the Month Playlist is one of the largest we’ve ever compiled! The month featured blockbuster names in country like Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Lucinda Williams, and Tanya Tucker as well as folk legends like Yusuf/Cat Stevens and June Spotlight artist Rufus Wainwright. Additionally, some of the bands that helped define alt-country, “whatever that is,” when No Depression originally launched — like Son Volt and Drive-by Truckers — had new releases as well.
