One Hit Wonders? Hardly.
Folks of a certain age no doubt remember when Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” blew across the music world, with its easy, masculine twang and inherent sensuality. It was a huge hit for Isaak in 1989, but hardly the only trick up his sleeve. A dozen albums into his career, Isaak unleashes a brand new album of doo-wop, rockabilly, and more. That leads the pack this week, followed by the otherworldliness of Joanna Newsom and a country singer-songwriter disc from Leigh Nash (of Sixpence None the Richer, best known for ’97’s “Kiss Me”). Plus, meet new folk duo Cicada Rhythm and check in on still-going-strong Mountain Man Leslie West. There is, as usual, something for everyone.
