Picture I took in October of 2014 of Rik Emmett and Dave Dunlop in Syracuse, New York at the The Palace Theater. I have had the opportunity twice now, to see Rik and Dave live at the Palace Theater in the last three years. Amazing musicianship from these two; Rik Emmett known from his days of Triumph in the late 70’s and most of the 80’s, has also produced a tremendous solo career from 1988 until now. Mr. Emmett has displayed great work in blues, jazz, rock, singer-songwriter, and instrumental album releases since he left Triumph. Rik and Dave Dunlop now tour as a duo, sometimes under the name Strung Out Troubadours, mostly just acoustic. Rik and Dave’s shows contain material from all aspects of Rik’s career, even throwing in some cover tunes from time to time.
If you happen to be in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 3, & 4 near the Tin Angel, check out their show. The show on the 3rd, I have just learned is sold-out so you will have to catch Sunday’s show.
Worth catching if you can.
In a year that so many of the great musicians I grew up on have left us, it was great to meet and hang out with one of my all-time influences in music. Rik Emmett is a tremendous human being as well as talent.
