Birds of Chicago perform March 30, 2016 at the Fremont Abbey in Seattle

The Birds of Chicago were outstanding last night at their show at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center in Seattle, WA performing to a standing room only crowd. Their performances are getting better and better every time I see them. The venue had a very nice churchy vibe and that must have been because it is an old church that has now been repurposed as an arts and entertainment center. The vaulted ceiling added to the depth of the sound because the sound was exceptional. Kudos for the sound guy.

Sitting in with the band last night were JT’s brother on piano, Daniel Walker on keyboards and accordion, and I didn’t catch the name of the person who joined them for their last few songs on dobro. All of the accompanists add a lot of richness to an already stellar band including husband and wife JT Nero and Alli Russell along with Chris Merrill on bass and Nick Chambers on drums. The band played an eclectic set of their material from their self titled album from 2012 that included one of my favorites, Flying Dreams as well as songs from their current hit album “Real Midnight” which included Dim Star of the Palisades, Remember Wild Horses and the title track Real Midnight.

For all of us that attended last night’s performance we experienced a joyful and entertaining evening…
