Folk Uke performed at Saxon Pub in Austin, Jan. 17, 2015
Folk Uke, the duet that includes Cathy Guthrie (daughter of Arlo Guthrie,) and Amy Nelson (daughter of Willie,) performed Jan. 17, 2015 at the Saxon Pub in Austin. Their angelic voices often contradict the edgy and authentic song lyrics recorded on Folk Uke’s CDs released nearly six years apart beginning in 2005. For their first self-titled CD in 2005, they collaborated to co-write the songs, “Sh*t makes the Flowers Grow,” “Knock Me Up,” and “Mother F***er.” Cathy wrote “My Little Singer” for their second CD released in 2011, Reincarnation. She also co-wrote the rest of the songs with the exception of the 1980 cover, “He Needs Me,” by Henry Nilsson, 2002’s “Worthless,” by Mike Stinson, and “Long Black Limousine,” written in 1958 by Vern Stovall and Bobby George.
