Jeffrey Foucault with Billy Conway at The Bartlett in Spokane, WA
What attracted me to Americana singer-songwriter Jeffrey Foucault came about when I read a review of his current album “Salt as Wolves” which mentioned one of my favorite guitar accompanist Bo Ramsey who co-produced and played on this album along with the reference to North Mississippi Hill Country Blues artist Jessie Mae Hemphill. The attraction to Hill Country artists like Hemphill, R.L. Burnside, and Junior Kimbrough had fascinated me with their trance like sound for many years. Which is another reason I love the accompaniment of Bo Ramsey (Greg Brown and Lucinda Williams) who can play a single note that will color a song with a thousand points of aural delight. Foucault’s hypnotic sound is reminiscent of both Hemphill and John Lee Hooker.
