Anyone who has camped at the Philly Folk Festival has seen the iconic “Green Bus”. Here’s the story of the sign and the green bus. I worked on the pre-fest camping committee for about 20 years and one of my jobs was to paint the main sign over the camping gate. Each subsequent year, I’d paint over the previous year’s sign. When legendary songwriter Dave Carter died, I painted this sign in his honor, with his beloved lyrics. So many people know and love this song, and the words are so apropos to how so many fest goers feel. The next year I didn’t have the heart to paint over it, so I requisitioned new supplies for a new sign. The only challenge was where the heck to hang a 16′ sign in the campsite. My friend Steve a.k.a. “Rama” took me around in the golf cart and we looked for a spot. As we were coming up the hill and saw our friend Scott’s bus ahead, we both had the same aha moment. The rest as they say, is history. p.s. That’s Rama atop the bus!
