Poem – The Day George Jones Died
The Day George Jones Died
My phone wasn’t working
The day George Jones died
Suddenly,
Everything became insignificant
The Twiiter feed
Had stories of people
Who wanted you to know
They knew him personally
I cried real tears
The day George Jones died
I guess he finally:
“Stopped Loving Her Today”
For some stupid reason
The country music folk
Called him:
“The Possum”
I always thought
That was disrespectful
To such a great singer
And I fail to find the humor in it
And this world
Will be
A lonelyer place
Without George Jones in it
