Portland Bands to see at SXSW
For those of you that are going…
Blind Pilot – Shins style pop. Like, “I thought this was a Shins song” style pop.
Blitzen Trapper – Completely fantastic west coast rock band.
Viva Voce / Blue Giant – Viva Voce, which used to be a duo, is now a quartet. Blue Giant is a quintet whose core is the 2 original members of Viva Voce. Viva Voce leans to the rock side, and Blue Giant leans to the Americana side. Both are worth seeing.
Hillstomp – Distorted vocal, metal guitar style blooze rock. Somewhere in the universe near Scott Biram and Bob Log III.
Horse Feathers – Reaaaaaaaaaally mellow acoustic new folk kind of music. Fans of Iron and Wine and such should check them out.
Loch Lomond – Fantastic orchestral pop, led by the falsetto of Ritchie Young. One of your few chances to see theramin and bass clarinet on stage at the same time.
The Shakey Hands – Might possibly be a jam band. But perhaps not. I still like them.
The Thermals – Finally, some rock. Also read their hilarious press release:
