Record Store Day & the Holiday Rush
As you head out to shop for the holidays this weekend — if you’re so inclined — be sure to swing by a record store for the Autumn version of Record Store Day. There are a number of special releases dropping on 11/27 to celebrate the occasion. From that pack, I thought I’d spotlight a supplementary EP from the glorious Rhiannon Giddens, who recorded more songs for her solo debut, Tomorrow Is My Turn, than she needed. So, she and producer T Bone Burnett collected the remainders for an EP titled Factory Girl. If you loved Tomorrow, staff reviewer Jerome Clark thinks this one will knock you off your feet too. Rounding out this week’s picks are a two-disc collection from Neil Young and a little holiday burst of brightness from the Felice Brothers. If the Christmas music must start now, let’s do our best to make it rootsy.
