Releasing the Children
There they go, out into the world to be loved, dismissed, devoured …and the list goes on. My new album ‘Dig Love’ dropped this past week and that brings with it the release of another ten songs. Like a father seeing their children go off into the world it’s a day of mixed emotions.
There’s the embryonic conception of the composition, the labor of watching it grow up through writing and rewriting, the maturing process as it breathes life through the recording process, and then the moment of freedom where it is released to the world.
Not all children grow up to be the President, a Pulitzer Prize recipient, or an acclaimed artist, but they all have gifts, gifts that can bring joy from sorrow, a smile from a tear, or even peace from violence.
And so this album releases another ten offerings, pieces of me if you will, that will find their way to their predestined place. And I’ll watch them off knowing that I did my part. Now they’re in the hands, ears and electronic devices of others.
Mixed emotions? Yeah, but also a feeling of knowing I need to set them free.
