Rosanne Cash to Receive “Spirit of Americana” Free Speech Award

The Americana Music Association announced today that Rosanne Cash will be the recipient of its “Spirit of Americana” Free Speech Award for 2018.
The award, presented in partnership with the First Amendment Center, recognizes Cash’s work advocating for artists’ rights, including board service with Content Creators Coalition (C3) and her 2014 testimony before Congress as a representative of the Americana Music Association on intellectual property and digital music licensing.
Cash has also spoken out against gun violence for nearly 20 years, supporting organizations including Everytown for Gun Safety, performing in benefit concerts, and writing an op-ed for The New York Times calling for country musicians to cut ties with the NRA in the wake of the 2017 mass shooting of concertgoers in Las Vegas.
Cash’s father, Johnny Cash, received the Spirit of Americana award in 2002.
She will receive the award Sept. 12 during the annual Americana Honors & Awards show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
