Church Point, Louisiana, native Rosie Ledet has become one of the hottest zydeco artists in her home state, and beyond, in recent years. Now’s The Time is her seventh album for Maison De Soul since 1994; Ledet wrote eleven of its twelve tunes, which is about par for the course for her.
As with most zydeco records, some of the lyrics on Now’s The Time are afterthoughts: “Zydeco Yeah”, the title track, and “Little Rosie” are two-step numbers meant for the dancehalls. When Ledet takes her time with a lyric, however, she turns out tunes such as “Touch To Feel”, a very fine love song with a hook-laden arrangement, and “Don’t Look Back”, a rockin’ two-step that boogies beneath a strong lyric. Ledet gets a lot of attention as a zydeco starlet, but she’s due recognition as one of the genre’s better songwriters.
