Roy Zimmerman: Music for These Hopey-Changy Times
Alright…up until Saturday night I’d never heard of this dude. The wife and I were in a recreation center in the northern reaches of San Diego County with a couple hundred left-leaning, old hippie and now totally gray haired “progressives” or as they used to be known…liberals. An annual event that is a salute and quasi-award show to the local newspaper’s letters to the editors, this anti-everything-on-the-right group took a musical break with a guy and his mountain dulcimer and his wife on percussion (forgive me please…I’ve forgotten their names) who covered the Zimmerman song I’ve posted above.
Zimmerman’s website is here where you can read all about him and save me an hour of pounding on the keyboard. In a nutshell, he’s a California singer-writer-satirist in the tradition of Tom Leher and Phil Ochs and he’s the answer to the questions often posed here of “where are all the protest singers”. He’s got a ton of videos on You Tube you can search and view, and it seems he travels around the country a bit playing at such left-leaning venues as churches and coffeehouses.
If I do this right, I’ll try and throw up a couple more songs below.
