See you at Wakarusa 2011!
Wakarusa 2011 should be the biggest (and BEST) one yet. With a lineup rivaling that of many larger festivals, anyone attending should find an act that suits their taste. I first attended 2 years ago when the event was relocated to Mulberry Mountain near Ozark, Arkansas.
The first order of business when arriving at Mulberry Mountain with tickets in hand is to select a campsite, which is an interesting proposition. Once one has established a perimeter and secured their shelter, one can then begin narrowing down their choice of which act to attend. Often multiple acts overlap and conflict arises regarding which act to attend.
One of my favorite acts that year was New Monsoon.
Railroad Earth is a great Jam Band that continues to play at Wakarusa and each member demonstrates their virtuosity on their respective instruments in every performance.
In addition, one can also find bands with individual members that actually are larger than life figures. Warren Haynes, of Government Mule, was one such individual that I really looked forward to photographing and hearing. I was a little concerned about the audio level since I had heard they are the loudest rock and roll band, and I had to stand right in front of the stack of speakers to get this shot.
Moonalice was another refreshing new name for the stage at Wakarusa, with frontman G.E. Smith and friends, what a blast from the past!
The Black Crowes closed out the show on the last night in 2009 and set the tone for an even better Wakarusa 2010!
With bands like these, great camping facilities, outdoor recreation such as paddling and smallmouth bass fishing on the nearby Mulberry River, hiking and mountain biking the trails in the Ozark Mountains, anyone attending Wakarusa 2011 should look forward to making memories in NorthWest Arkansas!
