Single Review: Folk Rock Artist Sherman Ewing’s “Cross My Broken Heart”
I have been a fan of Missing Cats, a singer-songwriter duo formed by John “Jojo”Hermann and Sherman Ewing. I was pleased to learn of Ewing’s solo project, and his newest single “Cross My Broken Heart” is a nice introduction of what’s to come in his new EP, expected to release later this spring.
“Cross My Broken Heart” is a catchy emotive blend of pop, rock and country. The melody begins gently drawing us into his story and gradually building in intensity. The Minnesotan born singer/songwriter’s lyrics are simple and honest telling the struggle of finding his way back to Savanna where he left his heart. Channeling a similar sound to early folk period Bob Dylan, Ewing describes how the ‘cool winds keep blowing’ him away from his love. By the end of the song however he has decided he is coming home ‘This time, I’m coming home for you’.
Take a listen for yourself and see if this doesn’t pull at your heart strings!
