Music is always evolving, ever changing, and a constant reflection of today’s new age. It’s colorful, so imagine the anticipation I was filled with when hearing the first single, off Sluka’s new album entitled, “Colorful Radiation.” The aptly titled, “Number One,” is filled with colorful instrumentation the first thing I notice is a ukulele which has never been my favorite instrument, but in this case, it definitely works. Additional tracks that enticed me immediately included “Tease Me” and “Cold War,” which had me craving more. Throughout the record Skula grabs your attention and holds it there steadily as you aren’t sure what the next song brings.
Throughout the record, Sluka brings an original “folk,” sound to the table before transcending into their delightful rock driven masterpieces. A common thread that spreads throughout is the electric guitar which drives the space age tunes, giving them an intensely experimental sound. Sluka’s vocals not only compliment the instrumentation but puts me in the mind of new age David Bowie. With rich hypnotic tones, a beautiful dark underlay, and pretty good pitch control this is one record I put on repeat instantly. It’s the dark pulse of the beautifully bold soundtrack of life, music, and passion definitely worth a listen.
