Steve at Telluride #24: Good Onya, Mates
Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson
Shanebers are a cute couple. He’s the reticent, scruffy one. She’s loquacious and all dolled up tonight like Isis (although my brother leaned over and said that she looked like Keith Richards. He, however, also admitted that he liked it when she referred to her husband by name.) They certainly sound like they were born to sing together. They were joined tonight by Kasey’s father on mandolin and slide guitar, and presh moment: They dueted on a children’s song they wrote for Kasey’s kids. The place was all smiles, let me tell you. Kasey even took a kazoo solo that she had asked us ahead of time to applaud for. Shane was left alone on stage at one point, after which Kasey reappeared very out of breath for her own solo–she explained that she had run back to the bus for more scotch–and performed a touching version of “The Captain.”
The sun has made a reappearance here, and we’re hoping for a clear night for Slammin’ Sammy, coming up next.
