Stream Bloodshot Records’ New Holiday Compilation ’13 Days of Xmas’
Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and whether you like it or not, holiday music season is, too. If you’re not the world’s biggest fan of holiday tunes, you might change your own tune when you give this new compilation from ND pals Bloodshot Records a spin.
13 Days of Xmas is the first holiday offering from the beloved Chicago label. Rather than your typical carols and saccharine ballads, the compilation features more realistic titles like “I’m Drunk Again This Christmas” (by Zach Schmidt) and “Christmas in Oblivion” (by the Yawpers). Of course, if traditional music is your jam, there are also some fantastic, unorthodox versions of classics like “O Holy Night” (brought to life by Murder by Death) and “White Christmas” (reimagined by Ron Gallo). Other artists featured on the project include Jon Langford and Ha Ha Tonka.
“Let’s face it, most of the music we’re bombarded with this time of year at the malls wrings the joy out of the season,” Bloodshot co-owner Rob Miller says. “For over 20 years, our fans have been asking us to help, to add zest to otherwise drab holiday gatherings and provide a groovy counterpoint to those damn dogs barking ‘Jingle Bells.’ We finally listened and corralled 13 friends and allies for this album of subversive and heart-warming seasonal tunes.”
