Susan Werner Premieres Video for “1955 Chevy Bel Air”

Songwriter Susan Werner is preparing to release a new album, An American in Havana, that chronicles two trips she took to Cuba earlier this year. Out September 15, the album features tracks both about and recorded in Cuba, and should appeal both to those who have visited the country and those who hope to do so one day.

Ahead of the album’s release, No Depression is happy to premiere the music video for An American in Havana track “1955 Chevy Bel Air.” The video features footage of Werner in the studio and touring around Cuba in a classic car.

“In Havana, you really do have to ride in a vintage American car and cruise the Malecon, the long strip of beach along the north side of the city,” Werner explains. “It’s an unforgettable experience. I wanted to capture the joy of that feeling in a song, and at the same time wanted the song to be true, honest, not a cliche. What I noticed more than a few times with the couples riding in the backseat was that the man was loving the whole thing and the woman was kinda done with it after awhile. Needless to say I side with the guys on this one.”
