Suzanne Santo of HoneyHoney to Release Debut Solo Album ‘Ruby Red’
Suzanne Santo has announced release details for her first solo album, Ruby Red. The Butch Walker-produced collection will release August 11.
Santo is best known as one half (alongside fellow musician Ben Jaffee) of the roots duo HoneyHoney, who have been making music since releasing their debut album First Rodeo in 2008. Ruby Red will be mark a new chapter for Santo, who is using this newfound solo opportunity to explore darker, more soulful sides of her artistry than she has through previous work with HoneyHoney.
Santo and Walker play the majority of the instruments — violin, guitar, and mandolin among them — on the album’s 11 tracks. Walker is well-known for his work as both a producer (for artists like Taylor Swift and Keith Urban) and a solo artist. His most recent album, 2016’s Stay Gold, was a critical success.
Last week, Santo shared the album’s first single, the driving, haunting “Ghost in My Bed.” It’s a nice teaser for what longtime HoneyHoney fans can expect from the album, which, while it is something of a departure, still dovetails nicely with Santos’ non-solo output thanks to a reliance on acoustic instruments and, of course, her unmistakable voice.
