Take A Chance- Studio Album from Joe Gorfinkle/The Project
Just sent away the masters for the CD from The Project- Take A Chance.
The CD is a collection of songs written over the last couple of years and was financed via listener/fan contributions on Pledgemusic.com with a portion of the funds raised going to support the Michael J. Fox Foundation. It’s a musical journey with visits to some of the styles of music I listen to and like to play. Many of the songs like TV Town , Laughing Bones, Mama Please, Shaky Man blues are are based on people and experiences in my life.
One of the goals was to make the music as natural as possible. All the recordings up to the mix/mastering phase were done on 2″ 24 track tape. Guitars and vocals were done with little or no compression and all guitar parts were done without footpedals for distortion or delay. The delay you hear is tape slap.
I was very fortunate to get a bunch of great musicians to help out and play on Take A Chance. While there were things I wanted to hear an loose arrangements, everyone pretty much came up with their own parts on the spot and there was no budget for rehearsal or retakes. There was little time for getting “over-creative” or technical, and I think that helped make the result what it is. My producing partner(and a great guitarist himself) Chuck Kavooras was really good at keeping the feel and was as much of a player as anyone, even though he didn’t play up a guitar on it. It sghould be available online soon. I posted a few tracks on the player on my page Hope you like it!
