The Blackheart Orchestra Release Video for latest single ‘Born To Live’
Brit, award-winning, musical double act, Chrissy Mostyn and Rick Pilkington -AKA The Black Orchestra- have released a new scorching track, “Born to Live.”
Identifying as composers, songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, like their breaks away from the stifling, commercialist crap that hogs our charts. The amorphous music, Mostyn and Pilkington are difficult to pin down. The Black Orchestra pioneer folktronica; a liberating, unconventional, play on textures that prototype pair sporadically redefine musical genre by creating an avant-garde, musical utopia, which boasts stringed instrument dexterity with 80’s synth, alongside classical influence.
Try saying that without blinking…what a tongue twister. Evidently the pair are channeling the “Mum it’s called art” trend and we love it!
In “Born to Live”, Mostyn flaunts an impeccable vocal capability, with raw, haunting, vocals to compliment the impassioned lyrical genius and together resonate throughout the song, sending you weak at the knees and trembling at the lips. Her soprano sound is reminiscent of Martha Wainwright in Snow Patrol’s “Set The Fire to The Third Bar”; sugary sweet and utterly gorgeous with the perfect amount of sobriety. Meanwhile, Pilkington, or rather Pluckington, peppers the track with funky, staccato, guitar lines to go with invitee Martin Hviid’s electro synth and percussion that underpins the composition with an unyielding beat; fusing acoustic fragility and pulsing electronica. Ingenious.
In sound, “Born to Live” steps away from linearity and dares you to contemplate, or even join the creators on a melodic journey of the human psyche. How very Freudian.
So, tune in and prepare to be transported into an entirely self-created, highly illustrated and harmonious universe that “Born to Live” tailors.
