The Highwomen Are Here

It was a rumor, it was an Instagram post, and then it was real: A supergroup of Amanda Shires, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby — The Highwomen — has formed and is making its debut with a fiery new song, “Redesigning Women.”
It sounds a lot like a thesis statement, a “9-to-5” for a new generation. It describes the reality of being a woman in today’s world, the messy and the miraculous. And it comes with a video that shows the strength you hear in the song. Plus, a fire truck.
The video, directed by Elizabeth Olmstead and featuring cameos from country music legends (including Tanya Tucker and Wynonna Judd) and up-and-comers, lands with news of an album coming on Sept. 6, produced by Dave Cobb and featuring lots of guests.
We’ll have more coverage of the Highwomen (say it out loud, see who you think of …) as their album date nears. Strap in and be sure to wear something that won’t scorch.
