The Mighty Orq – Scheduled to compete in the 2011 International Blues Challenge
The Mighty Orq will soon be packing his bags and making the trek to Memphis Tennessee where he will compete in the finals of the 2011 International Blues Challenge. The Houston Texas based musician is scheduled to compete in the Solo/Duo category. The annual competition begins on a regional level at The Blues Foundation’s 160 affiliates from around the world. The winners of those regional competitions head for the Blues Mecca of Memphis Tennessee where they compete in several music venues on historic Beale Street.
The Mighty Orq is an incredibly talented singer, guitarist, and songwriter currently calling the city of Houston Texas home. Orq has performed professionally for a little more than sixteen years and has released four albums since 2003, with a fifth album slated for release in 2011 on the popular German label Pepper Cake Records. In addition Orq has won two Houston Press Music Awards for “Best Guitarist” in 2007 and 2010.
The 2011 International Blues Challenge runs from February 1st to February 5th featuring a multitude of the finest blues players from around the world and many great events including concerts, workshops, Luncheons and wrapping up with The awards ceremonies.
Organized events like The International Blues Challenge along with the support of The Blues Foundation and it’s 160 affiliates make it possible for artists like The Mighty Orq to share their talent with the world. Blues Foundation affiliates, like the Houston Blues Society, bring Blues music to the streets, schools and neighborhoods preserving the art in their local communities.
