The Steam Powered Hour Presents: The 2nd Annual Battle of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Bands
Fellow fans of bluegrass and Americana!
This February 19th, at 8pm The Steam Powered Hour will host our second annual Battle of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Bands at Theatre 80 in Manhattan’s East Village (that’s footage starring last year’s winners Citigrass above). Twelve top bluegrassish bands from New York and beyond will fight it out for the chance to perform at the 2011 Hardly Strictly
Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco, California.
Select members of the music industry will be on hand to decide the winner. So far, our confirmed judges include Dawn Holliday of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festivaland Norm Parenteau of Slipshod Management, who represents one of the biggest acts in Americana music, Old Crow Medicine Show. We’ll announce the rest of our judges shortly. In addition to the bands, a whole gaggle of New Yorker cartoonists will be on stage providing comic interludes. Like last year’s (with winners Citigrass!), this is a show you don’t want to miss.
The list of competing bands will be posted on Jan 21st. If you’d like to submit your band for consideration, see our lovely new site for
the official rules and details on how you can enter.
Not in a band yourself, but know a good band who should participate? Feel free to pass this information on to anyone.
Otherwise, we hope to see you there and may the best band win!
