The Sweet Spot: Greatest Run of Recordings?
A friend said recently that the Rolling Stones’ albums from 1968-1972 is the strongest run of consecutive records in music. We’re talking Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main Street. A great bunch of albums, but I go to Led Zeppelin’s 1969-1973: Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV, and Houses of the Holy.
Contenders: Springsteen’s ’75-87, minus The River; U2, ’83-93, less Rattle & Hum; Dylan’s ’64-66, might add ’69’s Nashville Skyline; Metallica’s ’83-88, first four albums, pre-haircut and so-on; Radiohead ’95-01; Beatles ’65-70 subtracting the soundtracks for TV movies; Waylon Jennings ’73-75.
