Top Eleven Follow Up
Well, I slept on it and of course it occured to me that I may have been negligent in my rankings, thus forcing me to add two more to make a lucky thirteen. I also noted I had a couple of typos but I was rushing. I may have misspelled intelligent? [ What does that say for me] Anyway here is number 14] No Kinda Dancer and West Textures by Robert Earl Keen, the raw,unpolished Keen delivers some of his best songs and vocals in these two earliest works. Flawed, yet brilliant, the song “Maria” is so warm and sensual that it will make you want to go out and hug a Moose [ or Polar Bear for some] For all of you who remember that “first love” when you thought you knew what love was, ” Jennifer Johnson” will bring back a wave of nostalgis that very well could smother you. 13] Filth and Fire, or is it Fire and Filth but it is by Mary Gauthier and when I heard it the first time I played it for four hours [ that was the lenght of my trip or I may have played it for four days had I been traveling farther] Her songs speak of that quiet underbelly of society where misfits, users, and lost souls search in vain for truth and happiness but are mostly unsuccessful at both. Listen carefully to “Merry Go Round” and if that one don’t make you cry then check your humanity………
