Video Premiere: Becky Warren “Dive Bar Sweetheart”
With her debut solo album, War Surplus, Nashville singer-songwriter Becky Warren relays the affecting, gritty, and personal tale of the relationship between an Iraq-bound soldier named Scott and his girlfriend, June. The twelve-song concept record candidly and potently follows the couple’s story through their initial meeting to more somber moments. One of the tracks, “Dive Bar Sweetheart,” is an upbeat, saloon-set love song that recounts the meeting of the two in a catchy, soulful and twang-filled gem. Enjoy the video of “Dive Bar Sweetheart” below which features clips of Warren recording the LP in Nashville at Welcome to 1979 Studios.
Since 2014, Becky Warren has won both the Merlefest Songwriting Contest and the Kerrville New Folk Competition. She hopes the record will resonate with a wide range of fans while raising awareness about veterans and PTSD. “There are so many people out there who have gone through similar experiences,” Warren says, “and I want to do everything I can to make them feel like they’re not invisible. And maybe at the same time, the record will lead some people to learn more about veterans’ issues, and take some positive action.”
