Alejandro Escovedo & the Sensitive Boys perform “Castanets”
As a reminder to anyone near the Twin Cities this evening, do yourself a favor and head on to downtown Minneapolis to the Dakota for a great meal and catch some incredible music.
I particularly like this video for a couple of reasons. First of all he starts by saying: “Since Lou Reed’s passing we have been starting every show with some feedback” and then launches into an absolutely blistering version of “Castanets”.
The other reason I love this video is the absolute joy of a performer who is back on top of his game and killing it. I will never forget seeing the video of Alejandro’s first public show since coming back from the illness that damned near killed him. It was gut wrenching to see this extremely frail, gaunt, ghost of a version of who just a few years earlier was the coolest, most charismatic (in a punk way), most talented performer I had ever scene. This video is proof that the man formerly under the influence is back, healthy and happy. Amen.
