On the Mount Rushmore of country music, Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson are the last two remaining figures from Nashville’s 1950s golden era still actively creating new music. The two reunited after 30 years on the bittersweet ballad “Lay Me Down” off Lynn’s latest album Full Circle. Written by Lynn’s son-in-law Mark Marchetti, the song’s tender honesty towards the peacefulness death can bring is both a heartbreaking reminder of those recently lost and a testament to those who continue to play.
