VIDEO PREMIERE: Echo Bloom Brings Psychedelic Country with New Video “Leaving Charleston”
Brooklyn-based 4-piece band Echo Bloom delivers this psychedelic visual to accompany their country rock single, “Leaving Charleston.” The song is the first of 11 tracks from their latest album, Red, which is now available on iTunes. The song delivers solid songwriting with poetic lyrics that tell the story of a young couple escaping from an abusive father in Charleston, only to find hardship and eventually homelessness. The grim lyrics are set to a jaunty rock beat, with frontman Kyle Evans crooning the sad tale. With a gentle rasp, he sings the hopeful chorus, “We will try baby / try to do the best we can / and we will ride baby / ride into the promised land.”
The video itself was creatively produced in DIY fashion. Says Evans about the video-making process: “We projected the music onto ourselves, it almost played through us. We got a large screen of green paper and danced in front of it in my living room, then overlaid a bunch of old videos. The video goes over us, through us, just as we are vessels for the music. It’s a combination of everything we hold dear – our old history, the folk song, and the new psychedelia – psychedelic country.”
