WALLACE: Playing With Fire EP (to be released on March 23)
There’s something special about Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Wallace, who hails from New England. The title of his debut EP Playing With Fire seems to say it all. If you’re a post-grunge/acoustic folk/rock fanatic looking for a thrilling musical journey, this is it. His hushed, nostalgic timbre à la post-grunge Neil Young in “A Pity” is just as soothing as the compelling “Out of My Head,” in which he bewails about a former love. There’s also lots of surprises. In the transfixing “All For Tonight,” Wallace delivers a ferocious howl that simply entrances the listener. His song lyrics are just as captivating: “Don’t be scared now/ Just beware,” he warns in “So Long” with a spellbinding tone that takes listeners on a stirring, high-energy pursuit.
