    Next up is a five-song EP called Key To The Skyway, from a band called Mason Porter, out of Pennsylvania. This came with a shortlist of artists, and suggests that fans of those artists (The Band, The Grateful Dead, a few more) might like Mason Porter as well. It took a few listens – the EP’s opener, “A2B Machine”, is actually far closer to Mumford and Sons than to any of the artists listed – but the four songs that follow have a nice sure-handed touch that brings to mind what I loved about sections of 1970s music. There’s a lovely delicate piano, a moving mandolin, vocals that sound as if the singer were genuinely having fun with it.
     

    There’s a really nice homage to The Band as the EP ends with “Midnight Mountain Music Show”. The standout song on this one for me is “Four Leaf Clover”: Mason Porter’s lead male vocalist is strengthened and beautifully bookmatched as one half of a duet with Kiley Ryan.

    Key To The Skyway is due to be released on 2 June 2015.
