Just in time for the advent of Summer comes a really nice EP from Mason Porter, the second release of theirs I’ve reviewed. Heart Of The Mountains offers up six tunes, five of them originals. This is a band that knows what it wants to play, and they do just that, and do it well. Sarah Larsen’s wonderful and evocative violin and cello weave through the entire EP, raising gooseflesh in places, adding texture and layers. Standouts on Heart Of The Mountains include “Box Of Answers” (written by bassist Tim Celfo) and “Yosemite”, an offering from guitarist and mandolin player Joe D’Amico. The one traditional is a moving, beautiful rendition of “Shenandoah”.
Heart Of the Mountains is available on 3 June 2016, from the band’s store at
http://masonporter.com/home and at iTunes and the usual suspects: CDBaby, on Apple Music, Amazon, Amazon Prime, iTunes, Spotify, Shazam, Deezer, YouTube/Google Play, and on compact disc available through the US Mail.
